Meet Jim & Teresa: Relationship Experts

Have you had a history of relationship failures? A long string of break-ups? Maybe divorce? If so, we have a question for you: “How is your next relationship going to be any different?” Check out the free advice below and learn how these relationship experts succeeded.

I want to begin by saying that my wife and I do not have a perfect marriage. But, what is important is that we are committed to constantly improving our relationship and want to teach you how to do the same.

“And then a light bulb went off in our heads: People don’t really know how to be in a relationship. They don’t know how to date and definitely don’t know how to be married.”

Isn’t it weird how nowhere in life do we have a specific plan or some kind of training course in high school or college that teaches us how to be effective and successful in our personal relationships?

Well, would it be weird if a plumber tried to fly a Boeing 747? Absolutely. Yet, that’s exactly how we approach relationships. We assume that because we have one part of our lives figured out, we will automatically excel in other parts.

“Oh, you’re dating someone?” Figure it out.

“Just married?” Figure it out.

“Trouble being sexually satisfied or sexually satisfying your spouse?” Figure it out.

“Feeling like your relationship is out of control?” Figure it out.

The truth is most people don’t figure it out.

We don’t think we need training or instruction because that’s not an idea that society promotes. But I challenge you to change your mindset and approach relationships the way you would approach your career: continue learning and strive to be better.

And that’s why we’re here! We dated throughout college and got married at 22. We were young and absolutely clueless about relationships. We didn’t have much knowledge, but we were passionate about learning how to have a GREAT relationship.

When we decided to invest in our relationship and commit to growing as a couple, we were truly amazed at how much the information we discovered impacted our marriage. Then, as we begin to share with friends and family, we saw this information have the same transformative effects.

And then a light bulb went off in our heads: People don’t really know how to be in a relationship. They don’t know how to date and definitely don’t know how to be married.

Now, almost 33 years later, Teresa holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, a Certified PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator, a Certified SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) Facilitator, a past board member of the Mississippi Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and is Gottman Level I Certified.

I am a Smalley Certified Marriage Intensive Coach, specializing in weekend relationship intensives and have spent most of my professional career as a Corporate Trainer and Seminar Presenter. I am also SYMBIS Certified and am a past board member of the Mississippi Healthy Marriage Initiative. In addition, I spent 7 years as the Director of Marriage and Family and Youth Ministries at New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. Over the past 20+ years, we have started small groups, taught, spoken and advised on various topics related to marriage and the family across the country.

Whew! When I say we are prepared to help you, I mean it. That same passion that ignited our desire to better our relationship when we were 22 is still here, and we have been using it to help relationships all across the world!

Some of the information you read will be prescriptive (things you will want to mirror), and some of our information will be descriptive (mistakes you can learn from and not repeat).

In this blog, we will be specializing in expert relationship advice related to dating, being engaged and being married. And the best part? It's completely free.

Let’s grow together! Know that you are in the right place. We can help.
